| 2002 的夏天結束了美國巡迴演出，暫別多年的奔波終於回到心靈渴望已久的 |
| 古部落那是排灣文化的源頭，是創造生命的原地在這裡，與祖靈很接近 。 |
|
| Finishing the US tour performance in summer of 2002, we returned to the ancient |
| village. It is the source of the Paiwancivilization, it is the place where the Paiwan people |
| were created. We were so close to the "ancestors" here. |

車子停放在兩棵 百年老檳榔樹下這兩棵看似瘦弱的檳榔樹，見證著排灣文化

| 受到日本及國民政府等外來文化的衝擊。 如今它們已不存在了。 在拍攝這張 |
| 照片的幾個月後，被颱風吹倒了。 |
|
We parked the car under two tall thin beetle nut trees. They were very thin, very tall and
|
| very old, over 100 years.They had been standing there since the days Taiwan was a |
| colony of Japan. They are no longer exits any more. They were broken by a typhoon a |
| few months after shooting this picture. |

背負簡單的裝備與口糧沿著山壁下行至溪谷，越過老舊的吊橋再上行爬升八百
|
| 公呎，精疲力盡終於找到另一隱藏於陡峭山壁台地的古部落感動、興奮、想狂 |
| 叫、想告訴全世界，我們到達了與世隔絕的淨土。 |
| |
We walked all the way down to the valley, cross a very old suspension bridge which
|
| was built by the Japanese.Then climbed 800m up to the mountain. We were exhausted.

古部落被群山環繞，日照很短氣流過山，氣象多變，時常雲霧飄渺人建造的石
|
| 板屋，大多已倒塌唯有三四戶家屋仍然屹立。 |
|
The village was surrounded by mountains. Weather was very unstable there. Many of t
|
he slate houses were abandoned. Only 3~4 houses were well kept. |

不肯放棄 VuVu(祖先 )的家 |
老人說：『石板屋只要五年不住人，就會垮下來』 |
因此老人繼續在屋內炊煮生活，趕走樑柱上的白蟻。 |

The old man said "Without maintaining, the slate house would collapse
|
| in 5 years."That is the reason why the old man never gives up |
| protecting his house.It's the connection to the ancestors. |

Sitting in front the slate house,the old man was smoking a pipe
|
|
which was self made and especially designed to fit the cigarette.
|
| Listening to those incredible tales and stories about the spirits in the |
| mountain, we have no suspicion,but respect instead. |

看起來與日本人所拍的部落影像沒有太大的差別
|
不同的是拍攝者沒有要求被拍攝者立正站好
|
| 少了一份霸氣，多了一份尊重。 |
|
|
We can find the village has no big differences in this picture and the
|
old pictures taken by the Japanese people. The only difference is that
|
| the people in the picture were not ordered to stand in lines by the |
| Japanese ruler. |
