A Paiwan noble woman Rs Livlivang has a magical voice. When she sings, the elders cry. Someone said, if she had been born a hundred years ago, she might have been considered a witch. When she was eighteen she ran away from the village to a metropolis to forget herself and her source. At the age of thirty, she sensed the ancestors calling her back. She returned to Dawu Mountain, standing at the edge of a cliff, she sang with her magic voice to say: ancestors, I’m back…
Rs is a member of the Indigenous Paiwanese of Taiwan. She is outstanding in Indigenous music. She is the voice, the soul of the Paiwanese. She is also an artist of traditional arts and crafts. Her status is that of the most important woman in today’s Indigenous art. She was the first artist to bring the traditional music of Taiwan’s Indigenous population to the contemporary stage. She has participated in many important International and Domestic Arts Festivals around the world. She collaborated in 2000 with the U-Theater as the features vocalist. Her amazing voice joined the percussion instruments the drum, cymbal and gong of U-Theater. The roaring drum embodied thunder, the cymbal lightning and the gong rain; her voice embodied the wind raced with these sounds, and moved the thunder, lightning and rain.
